Receptionists:

BABY CLINIC:

This is held at Gospel Oak Health Centre, Lismore Circus, NW5 4QF with a Health Visitor in attendance for routine weighing, baby checks and advice. Telephone: 0203 317 3800.

Baby immunisations may be given either at either Gospel Oak Health Centre, or by Dr Matthewman at the Surgery - the choice is yours. Please bring the Red Book with you for these immunisations.

SICK CHILDREN:
Sick children will always be seen as soon as possible if brought into the Surgery (this may be much quicker than a visit). If in doubt about bringing your child, please phone the Surgery first for advice. There are emergency Paediatric clinics at all the local Hospitals, but they do require a letter from the GP.

HOME VISITS:
If you need a home visit please phone before 11.00 am if possible. Visits are for those who are housebound or too ill to go out, otherwise please try to come to the Surgery.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST:
Our Clinical Psychologists are able to see registered patients at the Surgery and down at St Pancras Hospital by appointment, please ask the doctor. The Psychology team will phone you to offer you an appointment time a week or so after the referral is made.

INSURANCE & MEDICALS:

Please ask the receptionist for an appointment. A list of charges for services not covered by the NHS is available at reception, e.g. passports, driving licence forms etc.

MEDICAL STUDENTS:
We participate in the training of Medical Students from The Royal Free Hospital. We would be grateful if you would accept them as part of the team. If you would prefer not to see a student with your doctor, please tell the receptionist.
TRAVEL VACCINATIONS:

These are available without charge at the surgery, but you DO need to be fully registered with us. Please see us at least 1 month before you travel to allow enough time for an effective course of vaccines. For Yellow Fever, please contact a travel clinic who will charge you for this.

HEALTH PROMOTION: ASTHMA/ DIABETES/ COPD/ HEART FAILURE:

As part of our policy to promote good health, you may receive an invitation through the post for a health check. Please let us know if you are able to attend. Specialist Nurses and Advisors for asthma and diabetes are occasionally located at the Practice, please ask at reception for further information.

SMOKING CESSATION:

Did you know that you can now obtain nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and other stop-smoking aids from your doctor on an NHS prescription?

You can also be seen at a local stop-smoking clinic if you wish: telephone 0800 107 0401.

BLOOD TESTS & OTHER SPECIMENS:

Some tests can only be taken at the Hospital, but most can be taken at the Surgery and sent to the Hospital on our pre-arranged collection service - e.g. cholesterol and anaemia tests.

All specimens need to be analysed on the same day.

The Royal Free Hospital collects our specimens around 11.00 a.m. So if you are to have your blood test taken at the Surgery, please check-in early and tell the receptionist.

Alternatively, if you prefer to have blood taken at the Hospital, please take the form to the Royal Free Pathology Lab (1st Floor) between 09.00 a.m - 4.00 p.m.

Please allow at least 3 working days before phoning for results; some tests may take much longer.

FAMILY PLANNING:

Consultations with the doctor are available during normal surgery hours.

A cervical smear is recommended for all women aged 25-50 every three years, and every five years for women aged 50-64. You may receive a reminder letter through the post. The smear can be taken for you at the Surgery - best time is around the middle of your cycle, it cannot be done if you are actively bleeding. There is sometimes a nurse available at the surgery and to take cervical smears, by appointment only.

You can also get your cervical smear done at a community clinic of which two are listed below. Results should be sent to you through the post from the Health Authority in 4-6 weeks.

Crowndale NW1 - telephone 0203 317 2402
Margaret Pyke H/C W1 - telephone 0203 317 3737

If you need the morning after pill, remember it should be taken within 72 hours of the event; it can also be purchased over the counter without prescription.

MINOR SURGERY:
Joint injection and cryotherapy are available. Discuss with the Doctor.

DISTRICT NURSES:

The District Nurses hold a clinic for wound dressings, or they can visit you at home for dressings and other aspects of nursing care as appropriate. They are based at Gospel Oak Health Centre, Lismore Circus, NW5 4QF. Tel: 0207 391 6360.
